Ricardo Montaner releases new version of “Si tuviera que elegir”

(Miami, FL) — One of the most iconic songs in Ricardo Montaner’s career, Si tuviera que elegir — remembered for its emotional music video in which his daughter Evaluna appears as a young girl — is returning this May 16 with a new version performed in three voices. In this heartfelt reinterpretation, Montaner joins his voice with Evaluna’s and Camilo’s, offering a fresh, intimate, and deeply moving take on the classic.
Twenty-three years after its original release on the album Suma (2002), Si tuviera que elegir (the first track from what will be his long-awaited duet album, the first of his career) takes on new meaning. It retains the sensitivity that made it a fan favorite, but now it gains renewed strength and a contemporary feel thanks to this family collaboration.
“Having Camilo and Evaluna sing alongside me gives the song a different meaning,” Montaner said. “I’ve had this idea for a long time, and it was time itself that decided when and with which song. Camilo, with his unique voice and at the peak of his career, and Evaluna, with her angelic and original way of performing, turn this song into a gem.”
Camilo also shared his excitement about being part of the project:
“Si tuviera que elegir is a song that puts into perspective what is truly valuable in life. I’ve always loved it deeply, but now that I’m a father, I listen to it with different ears and love it even more.
Looking at photos and videos of Evaluna when she was little is one of my hobbies. I can’t get enough of it. So when I saw the video for the first time, already being her boyfriend, I melted. I feel honored to add my voice to such an absolutely iconic and important song in my father-in-law’s career.”
Evaluna, who went from being the young star in the original video to now performing in this new version, also shared her excitement:
“Being part of this new version feels surreal to me. It’s always been a very special song, and now it has a new meaning. Singing it with my dad and my husband, with my mom directing the video once again, and all of this while having my daughters beside me watching… it was magical.”
Montaner concluded by highlighting the sentimental value of the music video that accompanies this new release:
“The satisfaction of seeing Eva reinterpret this video, in which she participated as a little girl, drives me crazy. Marlene (Montaner, his wife and director of the video) created a masterpiece with this mix of past and present images. No one understands what we wanted to communicate as clearly as she does.”
